The New Courthouse will be the first “green” public building in our country, housing the Court of First Instance, the Court of Appeals, the Administrative Court of First Instance, the Administrative Court of Appeals, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of First Instance, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Appeals, and the Magistrate’s Court.
At the foundation ceremony, presided over by Bishop Nifon of Acheloos, speeches were delivered by the CEO of DIMAND Group and HUB 204, Mr. Dimitris Andriopoulos, the Minister of Justice, Mr. Georgios Floridis, the Mayor of Piraeus, Mr. Ioannis Moralis, and the President of the Piraeus Bar Association, Mr. Ilias Klappas.
Mr. Andriopoulos stated: “Today, we are taking a decisive step toward the future of Justice and public infrastructure in our country. We are laying the foundation for the New Courthouse of Piraeus, the first ‘green’ public building in Greece. Without the cooperation of the Municipality, the Region, the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the current leadership of the Ministry of Justice – including the Minister, the Deputy Minister, and the Secretary General – and especially all the people at Court Buildings Fund (CBF) with whom we worked closely to resolve critical issues, this project would never have begun.
We are already in the excavation and retaining wall phase, with the building permit issued in August. By the summer of 2026, the New Courthouse of Piraeus will be ready to accommodate approximately 800 employees and serve thousands of citizens. At that time, we will see how this project creates value not only for the people of Justice but also for the area of Agios Dionysios, an urban zone of about 4,500 stremmas, which had lacked clear urban planning regulations since 1894.
However, through the coordinated efforts of the Municipality and the Region over the past ten years and the subsequent revitalization projects, clear land uses and building terms have been established, marking the area’s renewal. This is the way cities should develop to become more sustainable and friendly, not just for us but especially for the generations to come.”
