DIMAND is launching a pioneering environmental initiative with the installation of the first urban beehive atop office premises in central Athens, at the historic MINION building.

This marks the first time that beehives have been installed on the rooftop of a modern office building within the dense urban fabric, actively supporting biodiversity and the city’s sustainable development.

In one of Europe’s most densely built capitals, with only 2–2.5 square meters of green space per resident, this initiative highlights the role modern buildings can play in improving the urban environment by supporting urban beekeeping and transforming rooftops across neighborhoods into greener spaces.

Since September 2025, more than 30,000 bees have been hosted on the planted rooftop of MINION, contributing to the pollination of millions of plants and flowers. Through their activity, urban vegetation is strengthened, air quality is improved, and conditions are created for a more resilient and healthier urban ecosystem.

As key pollinators, bees are critical to maintaining ecological balance. Their presence in the urban environment also carries a social dimension, serving an educational purpose by raising awareness among residents and strengthening environmental consciousness.

The initiative is implemented in collaboration with the organization Bee for Planet, as part of DIMAND’s ESG strategy, and forms part of its broader approach to developing green and sustainable buildings that respect both the environment and people.

Vicky Anagnostopoulou, Head of CSR at DIMAND Group, notes:
“Every initiative we undertake begins with a fundamental question: what footprint do we leave on the city? With this action, we chose a solution that combines care, consistency, and tangible environmental impact, making a meaningful contribution to improving the urban landscape.”

Evangelia Gklezakou, Senior Sustainability Manager at DIMAND Group, adds:
“For us, sustainability is action. Small, carefully considered steps that—like bees—may go unnoticed, yet leave a deep and meaningful imprint on the environment and society.”

As Maria Toutoudaki, Head of Marketing & Communications at DIMAND Group, states:
“With the motto ‘bee THE CHANGE,’ we aim to remind everyone that change starts with us. At DIMAND, we actively support biodiversity by bringing bees into the urban fabric. We invest in initiatives with substantial social and environmental impact, reaffirming our commitment to a more collective future and to cities that are sustainable and resilient.”

With this new initiative, the iconic building takes on yet another contemporary role, serving as a model of environmental innovation and responsible urban development.

The installation of the beehives at MINION is part of DIMAND’s broader effort to redefine the role of rooftops and urban surfaces, transforming them into vibrant spaces of greenery and life.
