Its innovative design, combined with the implementation of green practices, makes the Piraeus Tower a symbol of progress, prosperity, and environmental responsibility in the heart of the city. To study the environmental performance of the Piraeus Tower, a comparative evaluation was conducted between constructing a new building (hypothetical scenario) and refurbishing the existing Piraeus Tower (actual project). The evaluation focused on metrics such as embodied energy and embodied carbon (reflected in the project’s environmental footprint) throughout its lifecycle. The comparison considered materials, transportation, and construction site activities, concluding that refurbishment was the more environmentally beneficial option. The Piraeus Tower has received LEED Platinum certification, making it the first green skyscraper in Greece. Additionally, it aims for another globally recognized certification related to the health, well-being, and productivity of its users, the WELL certification (Well Building Standard).
